Site Update
Posted by: jjackson72
I want to apologize for the lack of posting as of late. The fact is that my company, Land of the Free Studios, is expanding by leaps and bounds and we are now operating 14 major and different stores with various producers like Cafepress, Printfection and Zazzle.
This is of course a huge time requirement and with Cafepress ditching their in hourse affiliate program for one run by Commission Junction (which I will not be joining) I have needed to find ways to quickly replace that income stream with other sources.
But I wanted to address a question put to me by another aspiring t-shirt entrepreneur last week. That question was where do I, personally, make most of my money in terms of the companies that I work with.
Well, I won’t tell you exactly but I will say that well over 90% of my revenues from selling t-shirts on-line comes from Cafepress and my Cafepress storefronts. Now please remember, that those are also the stores that I have put the most time and energy into promoting so those numbers have been a little skewed.
FYI I hope to start the weekly tips section again starting the first week of May.

Cafepress Recovering From Redundant System Failure
Posted by: jjackson72
On Tuesday, Cafepress informed shopkeepers that they experienced a “redundant system failure that resulted in the corruption of a number of images, deeming many unprintable” stating “Over the next few days we will be removing the pending* status from images as they’re fixed. Our goal is to restore as many as possible, and we anticipate knowing the full results of our work later in the week. We will send a follow-up email to report our status at that time.”
Yesterday, Cafepress informed shopkeepers that they have recovered “99%” of these images:
“Over the weekend we will be adding the recovered images back into the system, and removing them from the pending status. This process is expected to take one to two days, and Shopkeepers should begin to see images removed from pending status incrementally as early as Friday evening.
Please note that there are still a few images (less than 1%) that we’re still working with. If restored, we will add them back into the system and remove from them pending status. If not, we will provide a further update to individual Shopkeepers on Monday.”
Yes, I was hit by this and with thousands of images on Cafepress, I have been trying to find all the effected images. Needless to say, because Cafepress has a poor system for managing huge galleries like mine this is highly impossible. I have been told that Cafepress will be able to tell me which images (if any) of mone are not able to be recovered.
Overall, while it is a pain, I am happy with CP’s response to this problem.
If there is any new news to report on this I will post again.

My Decision on Cafepress’ New Affiliate Program
Posted by: jjackson72
As of right now, and having discussed how (if at all) Commission Junction has been working for some friends who have tried it in the last year, I have personally decided that I am not going to signup. At least not to start with.
The commission for affiliates is dropping from 20% to 15% unless you are selling uber $$$ per month as an affiliate. And since the majority of my money comes from selling my own products and not those of other people I can make more money by utilizing space that the affiliate program would take up in other ways.
